The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is loved by everyone.
The Kerem Tunnel, the first cycle tunnel in Israel is now open in the Jerusalem Ring Path, a 42-kilometer cycle path that runs around Jerusalem, Israel's capital city.
The tunnel runs along the Nahal Refaim-Emek Motza path. The tunnel's southern entrance is beneath Ein Laban in Refaim Park. The northern entrance can be found in Nahal Ein Kerem.
The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov as well as hundreds of cyclists.
Jerusalem was a popular tourist destination because of its glorious history. Elkin who, along with the Jerusalem Municipality spearheaded the project, stated that his ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development of Jerusalem's tourism in all its aspects and also in the development of exciting attractions and ventures that connect the rich history of our capital city's eternal past to its future... I encourage the cycling community to take a relaxing and modernized route that will take you through Old Jerusalem.

"The Kerem Tunnel project is an essential tool to realize the vision to transform the idea of transportation across Jerusalem," Elkin emphasized. "The tunnel, which is being constructed to connect to the Jerusalem Ring Path will join the existing bike paths as well as those that will paved in its neighborhoods. It is intended to encourage biking among the residents of Jerusalem and encourage the green transport revolution in Jerusalem."
The Kerem Tunnel, originally excavated by the Gihon Corporation in the 1990s in order to transfer its main sewer line to the Sorek purification plant.
