Neve ParitzkiJerusalem's first cycle tunnel has been open in Israel

The Kerem Tunnel is a great location to go on a hike or ride.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that runs around the capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. The tunnel's southern entrance can be found within Refaim Park below Ein Laban. The northern entrance is in Nahal Ein Kerem about half an hour away from the Kerem junction.



נווה פריצקי The 2.1-kilometer long tunnel was inaugurated on Thursday, by Jerusalem and heritage minister Ze'evElkin and Mayor Moshe Lion. Avi Baleshnikov of Gihon Chairman of Gihon, and hundreds other cyclists were also in attendance.

Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry budgeted the project.

Elkin stressed, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for achieving our dream to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem."  נווה פריצקי "The new tunnel, which will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect with existing cycle paths within the city, and are being constructed in its different neighborhoods. It's designed to encourage bicycling within its inhabitants, and also to encourage an environmentally sustainable transportation system in Jerusalem."

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in 1990 in order to transfer the main sewer from Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6lwMSJfGow The plant is located west of Sorek and is currently used as an infrastructure tunnel.

Current projects include road construction, installation blowers, and advanced security systems to ensure the tunnel is safe for everyone to use during the entire year.

The Kerem Tunnel also allows access to unique recreation spots such as the Ein Kerem neighborhood, the biblical zoo, aquarium and the along with the historic natural springs in Ein Laban and Ein Haniyeh.
